Nino Rota – Giuseppe Grazioli
For once I can put some XXth music on the stereo at home ! I must admit I started with the Godfather theme excellently played on harp by Elena Piva… This collevtion is a bargain for radio stations avoiding any atonal music! 3 albums of 2 CD are laready published by Decca Italia and Giuseppe will enter the studio in July for 2 more, for a complete symphonic cycle which will supreass Muti’s anthology for Sony. Nino Rota (1911-1979) music comes from Proko / Chosta/ Weill / Respighi. Even if I would never give Berg or the best Sir Paul’s tunes for this music, this is a music made by a master composer, often melodic, kind, never heavy. Superb playing from the orchestra mostly and certainly superb conducting by Giuseppe Grazioli. I particularly appreciated the 2nd cello concerto, but this is good music altogether.
