Architecture of time – Katzer – Hervé – Seither – Schneller – Campo
The Berlin Pianopercussion has commissioned 5 works on the theme “Architecture in music”.
Georg Katzer (1935*): Exkurs über die Mechanik
Jean-Luc Hervé (1960*) : 4
Charlotte Seither (1965): Running circles
Oliver Schneller (1966*): Cyan
Régis Campo (1968*): Eternal Sunshine.1
This is not an easy listening record. I was wondering if I would make a paper on it. The ‘ghost score’ of this ensemble and repertory is of course Bela Bartok’s Sonata for Two Pianos & Percussion, not his most accessible work. So why do I do it? Because I listened to it the 2 first times at a rather low level, not to bother my family members. Wrong: this CD has to be listened to at a rather high level to get the music, and it is very well recorded.
I enjoyed particularly Katzer’s piece, with a complex structure and Campo’s playful one, almost “Reichian”.
